Pienaar is still recovering from his latest injury, but here are five things you may or may not have known about one of South Africa's best exports to Europe.
1) Schillo grew up with his mother and two sisters in Westbury, a township around Johannesburg. As a child, his mother forced him to sit on the floor while watching TV, becaue she was afraid that he could be shot if he had been sitting on the couch.
2) In 2009, Pienaar was involved in a love tangle with the mother of his daughter. Danielle Steeneveld reportedly sued the South African for £850 000 (R15 500 000) after he dumped her. Steeneveld argued Schillo took away her contraception, promised to marry her and that the couple's break up left her traumatised.
3) In 2010, Pienaar was arrested and charged with drunk-driving after reportedly failing to comply with a traffic sign. He plead guilty and was subsequently handed a 12-month driving ban and fines totaling around £1 100 (R20 000).
4) Pienaar has made 194 appearances for Everton and Tottenham in the English Premier League. He has assisted 33 goals during his time in England's top flight - which is the third-most by any African player since 1992.
5) The 33-year-old has thanked former SuperSport United boss Cavin Johnson for helping him to reach his full potential. Johnson in his role at Ajax Cape Town helped develop his football skills, but also as a young person in a difficult environment. In 2001, Johnson orchestrated Pienaar's move to Ajax Amsterdam and Schillo thanked his former mentor with an emotional video message in 2014.
