Sekhukhune Bow Out Africa With One Win From Six Matches

Sekhukhune Bow Out Africa With One Win From Six Matches

Sekhukhune United ended their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a goalless draw against Diables Noirs on Sunday afternoon.

CAF Confederation Cup

Result: Diables Noirs 0-0 Sekhukhune United

Date: 03 March 2024

Sekhukhune changed the entire line-up following their victory over Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership, as the likes of Sibusiso Vilakazi, Kgomotso Mosadi, Pogiso Mahlangu and Michael Sarpong were given a run.

Diables Noirs were all over Sekhukhune in the early stages, as they created chance after chance but their shooting range was not accurate and could not test goalkeeper Ntokozo Mtshweni.

The Congolese side continued to pressurize Babina Noko and on the half-hour mark Yann Ngatse came close to breaking the deadlock with a header that missed narrowly wide.

The same theme carries on as Hardy Binguila eventually forced a save out of Mtshweni on the stroke of half-time with a strike from outside the box and the sides went to the break goalless.

After absorbing the pressure again early in the second stanza, Babina Noko had an opportunity on the hour-mark after Katlego Mkhabela guided a header over the crossbar.

With only four substitutes on the bench, Sekhukhune handed 23-year-old Cameron Carnell his debut with 18 minutes to go in place of Sarpong for fresh legs.

Lehlohonolo Seema's charges had the momentum in the dying minutes but they could not create clear opportunities and the game ended all square.

Babina Noko finished third in Group D with six points after they already got eliminated in the penultimate match against RSB Berkane.

Diables finished winless at the bottom of the section.
