Maritzburg United Will Have Their Skipper Back For The TKO Final

Maritzburg United Will Have Their Skipper Back For The TKO Final

His absence will be felt by Maritzburg United this coming weekend, but a late booking for Eric Tinkler's captain means that he's available for the Telkom Knockout final.

Richard Ofori has staked his claim as one of the best goalkeepers in the country at present with his performances for the Team of Choice, and he is expected to play a big role for the side if they're to make history by winning the Telkom Knockout trophy next weekend.

The Ghanaian shot-stopper had been on the verge of a one-game suspension for a number of weeks, however his booking in the 93rd-minute of their 0-0 draw with AmaZulu means that he will miss the clash with Polokwane City on Sunday rather than the bumped clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Tinkler's side have enjoyed a resurgence of note since the former Bafana Bafana man took over at the helm earlier in the year, first avoiding what looked like an almost certain relegation, and then starting the 2019/20 season like a house on fire as they climbed up the table and into their first ever TKO final.

Bongani Mpandle is expected to take over from Ofori for Sunday's game in Polokwane as Ofori sits out for his one-game ban, but the skipper is then due to retake his place between the sticks for the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on December 14.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg have just Kwanda Mngonyama at risk of missing the final at present, with the centre back sitting on three yellow cards for the season so far.
