A coaching panel, which included former Manchester United boss David Moyes, selected the 18-man squad of the season, but there was no space for Sadio Mane and James Milner.
Mane equalled Mohamed Salah's record as the African with most goals in a single Champions League campaign after scoring Liverpool's equaliser in Saturday's 3-1 final defeat to Real Madrid, his 10th UCL goal this season.
His teammate Milner broke the record for the most assists in a Champions League campaign, setting his colleagues up nine times in 2017/18, yet neither neither the Englishman nor Mane were named in the official UCL Team of the Season.
In fact, only three Liverpool stars made the selection, namely Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk and Salah. Meanwhile, the Reds' opponents in the final, Los Blancos, who lifted their third straight trophy, had eight players in the squad. In Cristiano Ronaldo, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Keylor Navas, eight of Zinedine Zidane's starting XI for the final were chosen.
AS Roma, with Alisson and Edin Dzeko, and Bayern Munich, with James Rodriguez and Joshua Kimmich, each have two representatives in UEFA UCL Squad of the Season, while Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini, Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi were also selected.
