Cristiano Ronaldo Taunted Atletico Madrid With Controversial Diego Simeone Celebration

Hat-trick hero Cristiano Ronaldo rubbed salt into Atletico Madrid players and fans' wounds with a controversial gesture during Juventus' sensational 3-2 aggregate comeback win on Wednesday, imitating Diego Simeone's "cojones" celebration.

The Portuguese forward stole the headlines with his hat-trick that saw Juventus overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

He was the star of the show on the pitch, but after taunting the Rojiblancos in the first leg with a controversial gesture, showing the fans five fingers for how many UEFA Champions League titles he has won, he could not resist another gesture in the second leg.

This time, Ronaldo seemingly imitated Diego Simeone's "cojones" celebration from the first leg when he grabbed his crotch area in a very animated fashion following his converted penalty to make it 3-0.

According to the Daily Mail, his gesture was a response to Atletico boss Simeone after his side's second goal in the first leg.

The Argentine tactician, who subsequently apologised for his celebration, was fined £17 000 (R319 000) by UEFA as a result, and explained his antics as follows.

"I had to show what I was feeling. I can only apologise if anyone was offended, but I did it from the heart," he said when asked about the incident, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

"I did it as a player in Lazio against Bologna and I did it again to show our fans that we have cojones.

"It wasn't aimed at the other team, I was turning towards our own supporters.

"It's not a nice gesture, I admit, but I felt the need to do it."

Ronaldo is yet to comment on his controversial celebration, and it remains to be seen whether or not he will be fined by UEFA too.
