Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi battled each other for the past nine years in LaLiga, but their direct rivalry has now ended after the Portuguese joined Juventus. A Manchester United legend thinks Ronaldo's obsession with being better than Messi could be the reason for his move to Italy.

The two superstars have faced each other multiple times in El Clasicos, and shared the Ballon d'Or between them over the past 10 years, with each of them lifting the famous Golden Ball five times so far.
While many believe Ronaldo had become unhappy at Real over broken promises of an improved contract, United legend Ryan Giggs – a former teammate of the Portuguese's – thinks the forward's obsession with being better than Messi could be the reason for his decision to move to Turin.
"I'm surprised that he would leave Real Madrid and go to Italy," Giggs said on ITV.
"I think it's a big challenge for him, but he's going to a huge club. Having that on your CV: Real Madrid, Man United, Juventus – it's some CV.
"He's obsessed with being better than Messi. He has that now, that, 'I did it in England, I did it in Spain, I'm going to do it in Italy... I did it with Portugal.'
"So maybe that will be his argument when (he asks himself): 'Am I better than Messi?'"

Ronaldo won 10 trophies, including his first UEFA Champions League title, in England with United, and added 16 more pieces of silverware, including four Champions Leagues, at Real Madrid. He also claimed one trophy with Sporting Lisbon and lifted the 2016 UEFA European Championship with Portugal.
