The Dutchman, who won the German double with the Bavarians and led his country to a third place at the World Cup, insisted all three Ballon d'Or finalists deserve their place at the shortlist.
"They (Messi, Ronaldo and Neuer) deserved it, because they are fantastic players," he told NOS.
"It comes down to a vote, so I can't do anything about it. It's out of my own hands.
"I had a great year and did everything I could. But there are a lot of players that really show great things."
Robben's ommission from the final shortlist prompted Bayern chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, to blast the Ballon d'Or but the winger insisted three great players have been chosen.
"It's nice that Rummenigge respects so much and gives me some credit for the successes, but the people have chosen and they chose these three great players," he added.

Despite being snubbed for the final Ballon d'Or shortlist, Robben made the FIFA FIFPro World XI shortlist and could still be named as one of the three best forwards.
