The Red Devils have secured the arrival of 24-year-old England international Mason Mount, who joins the club on a five-year contract from Chelsea.

Reports suggest that the 20-time English champions paid an up-front fee of £55 million (R1.3 billion) for his signature, with a further £5 million (R119 million) to be paid in add-ons.

Mount has left the Blues after coming through the London club's academy and making 195 appearances in his four-year spell for the senior side.

Speaking to United's website, the club's new No. 7 admitted that, while leaving Chelsea was not an easy decision to make, he is looking forward to this next step.

"It's never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I'm joining, and I can't wait to be part of this group's drive to win major trophies," he said.

"Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn't be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.

"I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United."

The midfielder helped the London giants win the UEFA Champions League in 2021, assisting Kai Havertz's winning strike against Manchester City in the final.

After becoming disillusioned at Stamford Bridge, Mount decided against committing to new terms at the club beyond 2024, and made it clear he wanted to join Erik ten Hag's project in Manchester.
