Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was tipped as the favourite to replace Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid, but is yet to take over at Los Blancos, and the reason therefor has now reportedly been revealed.
8 Bosses Who Failed At Real Madrid
Lopetegui was fired as manager of Los Blancos on Monday, a day after Real's embarrassing 5-1 defeat to FC Barcelona in El Clasico.
Weeks before his sacking, though, it was reported that Los Blancos had been considering Conte, who was let go by Chelsea before the beginning of the campaign, for the position.
Following Lopetegui's sacking, the club announced that Real Madrid Castilla coach Santiago Solari would take charge of the senior side in a caretaker capacity.
According to Marca, former Juventus manager Conte and Real have failed to reach an agreement over his transfer demands.
It has been claimed that Conte would want a new centre-back to help employ his favoured three-man defence, something fans saw him do at both the Bianconeri and the Blues.
Reports: Mourinho Furious With Man Utd Board
Real president Florentino Perez has decided to delay on appointing the Italian tactician as a result, perhaps to see if other managerial targets become available.
It has also since been reported, by Sky Sports, that Conte has ruled himself out of the job.
