Following Real Madrid's announcement that Julen Lopetegui had been sacked, the Spanish manager has now sent a message to Los Blancos following the decision.
Official: Real Sack Lopetegui After El Clasico Humiliation
On Monday, the club released a statement revealing that Lopetegui was no longer its manager, with the news coming just over 24 hours after the team's 5-1 loss to FC Barcelona in El Clasico.
The Spaniard's side claimed just 14 points in 10 LaLiga matches this season, while Real also suffered a shock loss to CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League earlier this month.
Despite things not working out, the 52-year-old has expressed his appreciation towards the Spanish giants' board for giving him a chance in the dugout.
"After the decision taken by the Real Madrid board of directors, I want to thank the club for the opportunity they gave me," he said in a brief statement provided to EFE.
"Thank you to the players for their effort and their work, as well as to each and every one of the club's employees, for their good treatment during this time.
"And, of course my gratitude to the fans for their backing. I send them my best wishes for the rest of the season."
