Manchester United have reportedly dropped their interest in Monaco star Fabinho, and decided to target a Chelsea star instead.
Reports: Serie A Star Wants Man Utd Move
According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho would prefer to work with Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic rather than the 23-year-old Brazilian.
Fabinho is one of the most sought after players in Europe at the moment, but is apparently seen as a second option for Mourinho right now.
The former Blues boss is said to want to reunite with the midfielder, but knows it will be no easy task to land him.
Chelsea will be reluctant to sell their prized asset to a Premier League rival, but this will apparently not stop the Red Devils from trying to tempt them to do so.
The league champions are believed to be close to signing Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco, and if that deal is confirmed, United will make a clear move for Matic.
The Old Trafford club are said to be looking for a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick, who is now 35 years old.

Matic, 28, made 40 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season, scoring two goals and assisting nine further strikes.
