Premier League giants Manchester United have announced their first signing for the 2017/18 campaign – a player who recently won the Portuguese Primeira Liga title.
The Red Devils have confirmed the £30 million (R487 million) signing of Sweden international Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
The 22-year-old centre back is understood to have signed a four-year-deal, with an option to extend, with the Old Trafford club.
"I am thrilled to be joining Manchester United. I have enjoyed my time at Benfica enormously and I have learned a lot there," Lindelof told the club's official website.
"But I'm looking forward to playing in the Premier League at Old Trafford and for Jose Mourinho. I'm keen to get started and make my contribution to the team's efforts to win more trophies."
The defender is expected to compete with Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Daley Blind for the centre back position next season.
