Next month, Finidi George will be leading the Super Eagles for the first time as the permanent head coach of the three-time African champions, after he was confirmed as the official successor to Jose Peseiro in April.
The Nigeria legend was an assistant to the Portuguese tactician during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and after an interim spell in charge during the previous international break, the former winger will now look to lead the west Africans to the 2026 FIFA World Cup himself.
His first test will be against rivals South Africa in Uyo on 7 June, before he prepares his team to take on Benin at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium three days later.
George is expected to announce his squad for these two fixtures before the upcoming weekend, and while many big names can expect to be included in his first squad as official head coach, one player who plies his trade in the Premier League is believed to be set to miss out.

According to Own Goal Nigeria, Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka will not be taking part in the World Cup qualifiers.
While the Abuya native was originally part of the 53-year-old's plans, after missing the Bees' final two 2023/24 Premier League matches against Bournemouth and Newcastle United through injury, he will reportedly not form part of the latest iteration of the Super Eagles, who are poised to take on Hugo Broos' and Gernot Rohr's charges.
