Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine may be close to agreeing a new deal with the club, the Siya crew has been informed.

Siya sources have indicated that this could keep the stopper at the Houghton based club until June 2028.

Soccer Laduma had previously reported how negotiations were close, and the Siya crew understands that Pirates are now a step closer to the agreement.

Siya sources have added that the former Chippa United goalkeeper could be happy with the new deal and that the club has placed their trust in him for the future.

"The talks have been going on for some time now. You remember last time I indicated to you that they will agree a new deal. Now it is as good as done. It's almost 90% done. It's a three-year deal. The club wants to make sure they keep the best in that department and Sipho (Chaine) is one of them," said the Siya source.

"You know he was the first choice before the injury and even now they still consider him the number one though Melusi (Buthelezi) is being used in his absence. So, the new three-year contract will run until June 2028. For now I can say the deal is imminent," the source observed.

A second Siya source added that since the club may lose Siyabonga Mpontshane and Richard Ofori at the end of the season with their contracts coming to an end then they will probably have to bank on Chaine and Buthelezi for the long term.

"This is like securing the future of their club's goalkeeping department. We can't say for sure about Mpontshane and Ofori for now but at least the team has made sure that they will still have Chaine and Buthelezi. By reviewing Chaine's contract for another three years until 2028 it's a good sign for the club going forward," the source told Soccer Laduma.

Chaine joined Pirates in June 2022 from Chippa United having played for Bloemfontein Celtic and Royal AM before, though he had never been a regular at those teams in the past.

However, since being given an opportunity at Pirates he has proven that he is an outstanding talent. Chaine was in great form this season in the PSL and also starred in the MTN8 until his injury.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but no response was received while this story was prepared.
