Kaizer Chiefs may have a challenge to keep one of their best performing players from this season, the Siya crew has been informed.

Venezuela midfielder Edson Castillo was only signed by Chiefs at the beginning of this season, and Siya sources have indicated that there is already foreign interest in the player.

Even though the January Transfer Window for the PSL closed on Friday, interest of players will continue to discuss potential transfers for the end of the season.

Siya sources have added that the club that may have inquired about the Kaizer Chiefs maestro is Egyptian giants Zamalek SC, and it is understood that Amakhosi may have to work hard to keep their prized asset.

"The news about the interest from Zamalek came in late towards the end of the transfer window period in January. But I don't think even if it came early that Chiefs would have agreed to a deal. He is one of their best players this season and I don't think they could just let go of such a player," said the Siya source.

"But again in football everything depends on the financial involvement between the concerned parties. And mind you, so far it's just an inquiry and interest which can go either way. Agree or deny. But Zamalek are coming hard and strong on this one. That I can tell you," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source added that the determining factor could be whether Chiefs bring in a new coach at the beginning of next season. A new coach may possibly have their own opinion on the matter, if Zamalek decide to take their interest a step forward.

"What will happen now is that the new head coach, if they change (the coach) is the one who will determine whether Zamalek can have Castillo or not because coach Cavin (Johnson) would not allow that. He is one of the number one names on the team sheet," said the second Siya source.

"And how can you let such a player go? But again, it will also depend on the offer as football is business above all. The interest is there but the end of the season will pave the way clearer than it is now," the source observed.

The 29-year-old had joined Chiefs at the start of the current season and has played in 15 league games which means he has only missed one game. Castillo has scored three goals from midfield which is a good return for a player expected to sit deeper. The Venezuelan has lurked around the box and has particularly surprised with his aerial threat.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
