In anticipation of this week’s 1363rd edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet on Thursday, 29th February 2024.

Exclusive: Eva Nga Interview

The long and short Nga’s stay at Orlando Pirates is that things just didn’t work out for him at the club. Being out of the picture for so long, his confidence as a striker was bound to take a knock, which could explain why rumours started surfacing midway through last season that he could be on the move. SuperSport United were heavily linked with the Cameroonian striker's signature, but in the end, he chose to go back to Chippa United. In an honest interview with Soccer Laduma this week, Nga lifts the lid on his shaky relationship with Jose Riveiro and reveals why he thought he deserved an opportunity at Bucs.

Kaizer Chiefs Strikers Feature

It was thought that a mini pre-season would see Cavin Johnson implement his ideas and attacking patterns into the Amakhosi squad. Yet, two games into 2024 and the side has scored precisely zero goals. An embarrassing Nedbank Cup exit has seen their trophy drought extended to a full nine years. This is becoming one of the darkest periods in the Soweto giants’ history and, in most big clubs, heads would roll. Whilst the problems on the field are extensive, the focus of this feature is on the lack of ability to score goals. Therefore, Soccer Laduma looks at the last two fixtures in an effort to examine the problems up front.

Campbell & Witbooi Mini-Interviews

Talk about talent in abundance. While Emile Witbooi continues to wow crowds in the DStv Diski Challenge, Shandre Campbell has been outwitting more established players in the top flight and is touted for big things in the game. Last week, sports apparel manufacturer PUMA announced that the young duo, along with Mfundo Vilakazi of Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town Spurs’ Luke Baartman, have joined their South African football family. Courtesy of PUMA, Soccer Laduma caught up with the pair as they talk about how their young careers are shaping up so far.

Breakdown of Mosimane’s R22m Win

Pitso Mosimane finally had his day in court against his ex-employers Al Ahli Jeddah, who were found guilty of contravening his employment contract by FIFA. Not only was the coach vindicated in his decision to part company with the Saudi club, but he was handsomely remunerated for his sweat and blood. What was supposed to be the awakening of a sleeping giant resulted in a nasty divorce between the two parties, despite the fact that ‘Jingles’ had delivered on his mandate to get the club back to the top flight in just eight months. Soccer Laduma does a breakdown of the latest developments that see him smiling all the way to the bank.

Jurgen Klopp Feature

Klopp shocked the world when he announced that this would be his final season at the helm of Liverpool. However, any concerns from fans were momentarily paused last Sunday as the German claimed his eighth piece of silverware since his Anfield appointment in 2015. The celebrations were loud and long, not only because of the circumstances surrounding the game, but because supporters know they have only four months left with this special coach. This week, Soccer Laduma looks back on what has been a successful tenure for the Stuttgart native.

Revolving Column

This week, we hear from SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt as he talks about his side’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup and why he mostly utilised youngsters in the competition. The veteran mentor also expresses reservations about a CAF rule on coaches, takes a dig at North African sides for some of the underhand tactics they use to win matches… and more.

Siyagobhoza

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is news on an in-form DStv Premiership star who has made it onto the radar, the nitty-gritty of the SABC and SAFA’s TV rights deal snag, where Andile Jali could be headed next, and more…
