Gauteng celebrates its football prodigy

20-year-old attacker Relebohile Mofokeng has been a revelation since breaking through at the Buccaneers during the second half of the 2022/23 season.

Mofokeng, who is a regular in Jose Riveiro's side and is receiving some attention from overseas clubs, was recognised for his early success in professional football on Saturday.

The young baller attended the 2024 Premier’s Social Cohesion Games Gala and Awards Dinner, which celebrates and recognises notable individuals for their contribution in sport in Gauteng.

Mofokeng, dressed in club gear, was beaming as he received a trophy from Gauteng Premier and former Moroka Swallows club president, Panyaza Lesufi:

"Yeah, it's a great honour to be here and meeting big people and the Minister. It just motivates me to keep on going and to keep motivating other people," said the young baller after receiving his accolade.

The Orlando Pirates media team also caught up with Mofokeng's mother, Naome, who expressed plenty of pride in her son:

"I'm so proud of being the parent of Relebohile Mofokeng and yeah, I thank Panyaza Lesufi for recognising him. Sometimes, you don't know who is watching, so, I always tell him that; 'You never know who is watching. Always play your best,'" said the proud mom.
