Memphis Depay's first-half strike secured a narrow 1-0 victory for the Netherlands over Scotland in an International Friendly.
The first 20 minutes were evenly contested with both teams failing to create clear-cut chances but definitely testing each others' defenses. With 10 minutes to go in the first half, the hosts fashioned an opportunity through Kieran Tierney who unleashed a long range strike which required a brilliant save by Jasper Cillissen in the Netherlands goal. A flowing and quick counter-attack from the visitors saw Depay tap in to give the Dutch a 1-0 just before halftime. The remainder of the half saw little action as Scotland went into the break trailing 1-0. Excellent build-up play by the Netherlands on the edge of the penalty area allowed Kevin Strootman a chance to strike at goal, but Tierney got across to make a superb block to deny the Dutch skipper in the 62nd minute. Five minutes later, Niall McGinn threaded a ball in for Callum McGregor, who turned beautifully to unleash a shot which was well stopped by Cillissen. Ryan Fraser made a good run down the wing in the 77th minute before cutting in and taking a shot which just edged Cillissen's upright. With minutes left on the clock, the Dutch seemed content with the 1-0 lead and passed the ball around until the referee blew the final whistle which handed The Netherlands a narrow 1-0 victory.
