2018 World Cup Qualifier

Result: Andorra 0-2 Portugal

Date: 07 October 2017

Venue: Estadi Nacional d'Andorra

Cristiano Ronaldo was among the goals as Portugal recorded a 2-0 win over Andorra in their 2018 World Cup qualifier on Saturday evening.

Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo surprisingly started on the bench for the European champions.

Fernando Santos' troops started the brighter of the two teams, with Pepe going close to opening the scoring in the eighth minute with a long range effort.

Bernardo Silva had an opportunity to open the scoring for the visitors in the 24th minute, but his shot from just outside the box sailed over the bar.

Seleção were attacking mainly on the wings, with the hosts holding a tight defensive line.

Ricardo Quaresma gave Portugal the creative thrust up field but Koldo Álvarez's charges held firm to send the match into the halftime break goalless.

Ten minutes into the second half, there were still no clear-cut opportunities as the hosts cancelled out Fernando Santos' charges in the middle of the park.

Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock for the European champions in the 63rd minute with a poked shot from close range.

Silva almost made it 2-0 in the 77th minute after pouncing on a rebound on the edge of the box, but his curling shot missed narrowly wide.

Andre Silva sealed the win four minutes before time with a close range finish after being setup by Danilo with a header inside the box, 2-0.
