FC Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta has admitted that Real Madrid were better than the Blaugrana throughout the La Liga season.
Barca Settle For Second Despite Heroic Comeback
The Catalan giants fought back from two goals down to beat Eibar 4-2 in Luis Enrique's final league game in charge of the club, but Real's victory over Malaga ensured the title went to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Following Barca's win on Sunday night, Iniesta congratulated his club's biggest rivals on their triumph, admitting they were the better side throughout the campaign.
"Well, we won. We did our homework, but Real Madrid were better than us. Congratulations to them," Iniesta said, as quoted by FourFourTwo.
"No, we didn't miss because of that. We won. All the rest is irrelevant. It's a shame it wasn't enough.
"We knew (the Madrid score) at half-time, but we didn't know apart from that. We did the job, but we couldn't depend just on ourselves, it was out of our hands."
Barcelona still have a chance to pick up some silverware this season, though, when they take on Alaves in the Copa del Rey final this coming weekend.
"Everyone is grateful for what Luis Enrique did and now we are going to fight against Alaves next week to finish the year as great as possible," Iniesta added.
