Pitso Mosimane Hails Mamelodi Sundowns' No.9

Pitso Mosimane Hails Mamelodi Sundowns' No.9

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane reserved special praise for two-goal hero Mauricio Affonso after securing Telkom Knockout glory.

The Urguayan was the star for the Brazilians, who rallied from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Maritzburg United in the final on Saturday evening.

Mosimane revealed after the game that Affonso is the striker he has been longing for some time now and his presence will be key in the CAF Champions League.

"We played a very good team here, you could see how dangerous they were, Judas [Moseamedi] came again to fix the country. He's powerful, you can't undermine him, that's his strength, he plays that way," Mosimane said on SuperSport TV after the match.

"Okay, Mosa [Lebusa] made a big mistake, he should have dealt with the ball but Mosa has been one of our important players, him and [Motjeka] Madisha, ja we managed to come back thanks God the hulk is here, Mauricio [Affonso], he came to the party. He gave us a different dimension, because we can't only play on one way," he continued.

"Yes, we've got our passes, our inter-passing and we're good at that, you could see when we put the ball on the ground but we needed a different option, with somebody whose got height like him, he's not fit trust me, we need to get him fit but brought him for this. But I think [Gaston] Sirino was on fire. But the experience helped us, the experience of [Hlompho] Kekana and Andile [Jali], they are experienced this game you just kill it with experience.

"That's his [Affonso] strength, that's what I told him, what you see is what you get, he's not a Themba Zwane, he's not Gaston Sirino, he'll put you to sleep and he'll pounce! That's why I went to get him from Peru, because I knew what I got. I've always wanted a player who is powerful like this but I never got, I never found it right. I needed somebody who could give me something different. [We need him] especially for [CAF] Champions League."
