Sony Report Hints At More Exclusive Game Controversy

Sony Report Hints At More Exclusive Game Controversy

The exclusivity of console games has been under the spotlight in recent months, and it seems it will be an ongoing conversation according to Sony's 2020 corporate report.

In the current generation of consoles, Sony was lauded for their impressive catalogue of exclusive games, such as God of War, The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man, to name a few.

However, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Death Stranding, both exclusives for PlayStation initially, were ported over to PC, and Eurogamer report that it could be an ongoing matter.

Digging through the generic business report, the pulled out the following quote, "We will explore expanding our first-party titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability."

Hermen Hulst of PlayStation Worldwide Studios also touched on the matter earlier this year, suggesting that they needed to be open to 'new ideas' to introduce more players to PlayStation.

The launch of the PlayStation 5 is on the horizon, and three major exclusives have already been announced in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet Clank: Rift Apart, and Horizon: Forbidden West.

Considering the first Horizon title was ported to PC, it is not far-fetched to think that the same fate could await the sequel.

And although Hulst did say that the release of Aloy's adventure on PC did not signal that 'every game will now come to PC', it does raise the question as to what exclusivity will mean in the next generation.
