Last week, no fewer than nine football personalities around Europe tested positive for the highly-contagious coronavirus, including Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi. Since then, a further 13 cases have been confirmed across the continent, most of which have arisen in hard-hit countries such as Italy and Spain.

The most notable outbreak of the coronavirus has come at Sampdoria, where Omar Colley, Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina, Morten Thorsby, Fabio DePaoli and Bartosz Bereszynski have all tested positive in the last few days.

Fellow Serie A side Fiorentina have also confirmed three cases in German Pezzella, Dusan Vlahovic, and Patrick Cutrone, the latter of whom is on loan at the club from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There has been a similar spread at Valencia in Spain, where Argentina international Ezequiel Garay, Spain left-back Jose Luis Gaya and former Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala have all been laid low.
