Computer Lamola Says Kaizer Chiefs Don't Have Players Of The Right Calibre

Kaizer Chiefs legend Computer Lamola believes there is no spark in Amakhosi's current play, and says that there is "something missing".

The Glamour Boys have had a poor start to 2016/17 after losing against Bidvest Wits and then being knocked out of the MTN8 by Cape Town City, and will be hoping to avoid back-to-back opening league game defeats when they take on Platinum Stars next week.

However, Lamola does not seem to be too hopeful of a turnaround, saying the club is lacking players of the calibre that were there in his days.

Speaking in this week's issue of Soccer Laduma, Lamola said: "I think there is something missing. There is no spark in their game. There's no co-ordination, there's no combination. When you consider the two goals (against Wits), it's about players' anticipation. It was just lacking that play with anticipation.

"When you consider Neil Tovey, you get your answer. He was not skilful, but he played with anticipation. He knew that from the flank, the player would cross and try to score. Neil could anticipate a pass before it was played. We don't have players of that calibre anymore.

"Even spiritually, the body language tells me that there is no oneness – actions speak louder than words. You can get 11 great players on the field of play, but the relationships will determine whether you are victorious. In other words, your relationships precede your talent, individually and collectively."

Chiefs have not lost their first two league games of a season since 2008/09, when they were beaten by Thanda Royal Zulu and Maritzburg United, and Steve Komphela will be itching to make sure that history does not repeat itself in his second campaign at the club.
