Chiefs To Recall Swallows Trio?

Chiefs To Recall Swallows Trio?

Siya sources have informed the crew of Kaizer Chiefs' potential back-up plan to beef up their squad despite not being able to register new players.

Amakhosi suffered a blow last month when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed their appeal to have the FIFA ban overturned, meaning they will now only be able to bring new players on board from July 2021.

With coach Gavin Hunt having to now rely on the same faces from last season, it's thought the Chiefs hierarchy is contemplating recalling three players who were sent out on loan to Swallows FC for the rest of the current season.

Ayanda Rorwana, Sizwe Twala and Itumeleng Shopane could have their loan stints with the Dube Birds cut short with their parent club needing a slightly bigger squad than the previous season because of their domestic and continental commitments.

The trio – along with Given Thibedi, spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Swallows in the GladAfrica Championship, helping them win promotion to the top-flight – and the Dube Birds were keen to see them stay on.

A deal was agreed on October 2 to have them return on a short term agreement, but Siya sources have now informed the crew they could be recalled.

Indications, however, are that Thibedi, who has featured in all of Swallows' three DStv Premiership matches so far will not join Rorwana, Twala and Shopane, should the arrangement to have them go back to Naturena be signed off.

Unlike Thibedi, they have not played a single match so far this season. But with Chiefs recently plagued by injuries and Hunt experimenting with young players, this could very well be their opportunity to cement their spots at Amakhosi.

The big question will be whether the youngsters returning are good enough…
