Pirates And Sundowns Confirm Entry In The Lucky Star Cup

The prestigious Lucky Star Cup 2019 is set to kick off in just under a month. Previously known as the Kapstadt Cup. Host club FC Kapstadt is proud to announce that the City of Cape Town is an official partner of the event.

The City of Cape Town's official partnership coincides with FC Kapstadt president Zaid Omar's announcement today that Premier Soccer League clubs Orlando Pirates FC and Mamelodi Sundowns FC youth teams will participate in the ninth edition of the event this year to be held in October.

The City of Cape Town's Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councilor Zahid Badroodien, said the Lucky Star Cup has grown considerably over the last nine years and currently provides a platform for thousands of grassroots football players annually.

"It has become Cape Town's premier development tournament, and it is where the young stars can hone their talent to become the next generation of soccer stars,"said Councilor Badroodien.

"As a key partner in the tournament, the City of Cape Town is delighted by this growth and we are looking forward to continuing our relationship with the organisers to further raise its status. We believe in youth development and our investment in this event speaks to our commitment to ensuring that young people are provided with the best opportunities to realise their full potential."

Councilor Badroodien added: "On behalf of the City, I'm really excited to be partnering with FC Kapstadt again this year and to further build this relationship heading to their 10th anniversary next year. Investing in events of this calibre reaffirms the City's commitment to inclusive youth development through partnerships with organisations and communities."

The Lucky Star Cup, Cape Town's premier grassroots football festival, will see 128 teams from across the country and almost 1500 players compete for the newly launched Lucky Star CUP title. The participating clubs will also include grassroots teams from Orlando Pirates FC and Mamelodi Sundowns FC this year.
