The biggest surprise in the West African country's latest squad announcement was the absence of 33-year-old goalkeeper Akpeyi, who made five appearances for Gernot Rohr's side in Egypt but has now seemingly lost his space in the team.
The German coach has instead called up Omonia Nikosia's Francis Uzoho, Fortuna Dusseldorf's Maduka Okoye and Heartland's Ikechukwu Ezenwa as his goalkeeping options.
The Super Eagles finished in third place at AFCON 2019, and will now test themselves in a friendly against 2019 Copa America winners Brazil in the next international break.
Rohr selected a strong squad, including Victor Osimhen, who has made headlines with LOSC Lille in France of late, Samuel Chukwueze, Alexander Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi.
