Previously, the PSL and the other teams' fans united to support Pirates on both their CAF Confederation Cup and Champions League campaigns. It was a unifying moment for South Africa, but can the same be said of Mamelodi Sundowns as they now find themselves in a similar circumstance?
Supporters Club received a piece of writing from a well respected contributor to the SL website, Jonnybee50. Below, he shares his thoughts on the difference between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns' CAF Champions League campaigns:
Recently, Downs are on the same page which Pirates once were; however, supporters have made it clear that they won't rally behind Downs.
Now what is the difference, with Downs? These are some of the comments fans shared on supporting Downs.
"There is no way in which we can support Downs, for what... Sundowns is a club, not a national team, they got paid from Motsepe's pocket not from our tax, so they are representing Motsepe, not us..." – Akani80
"We are not duty bound to support them since they have shown themselves to be completely disrespectful towards Pirates last season and that hurts." – Makarina
"Keeps yours stinking support for your trophyless useless teams nina, we don't need it #NGILIDAWANA PHELA MINA#" – iScefe
Now the question is: why can't we support Downs like we did to Pirates before? Are people angry of Downs' success, or is it the way they are humiliating other clubs in the transfer window, especially Chiefs and Bucs?
What do you think of Jonnybee's opinion?
