Parker: There's A Lot Of Trust At Chiefs

Bernard Parker

Man-of-the-match Bernard Parker says there is a 'lot of trust' in the Kaizer Chiefs camp following their 2-0 Nedbank Cup quarter-final victory over Cape Town City at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday.

Parker was a constant threat to the opposition defence and played a couple of killer through balls to unlock the City defence. Firstly, the 33-year-old praised the fans for showing up in their numbers from 'every corner' of the country.   "Firstly, I would like to thank the fans for coming out here in numbers," the Amakhosi striker told SuperSport after the game.   "I'm sure that everybody from all across the country, from every corner is here today. I would like to thank them for the support and the support from the Kaizer Chiefs family and the support staff."   Parker was happy with the way Chiefs 'managed the game'.   "It's unbelievable what we did here today. We managed the game well. We kept them on the backfoot. We got a few chances. We could have got more goals. But the good thing is that we got goals and we got the result," he said.   "I know the coach is not completely happy. He knows we can do better. But we can improve from here. We can take all the positives from today and put it in our back pocket and correct our mistakes. From there we can go on. This is the kind of spirit, the Kaizer Chiefs culture that the supporters need to see week in and week out."   Lastly, the 72-capped Bafana star said morale in the dressing-room was high at the moment but said the team could still have even more belief in their ability. He urged his side to replicate this performance in the next round.   "There's a lot of trust here," said Parker. "We trust ourselves. We trust our teammates. We can have more percentages on the belief. It's all in the mind. More of mental strength, more percentage on the mental strength, the positives and I'm sure the belief will then automatically come out.   "From here on we just need to stay calm, stay focused and keep our eyes on the trophy. Whoever we draw in the next round, we must take this same performance in to the next match."
