UEFA Nations League Wrap 03 September 2020

Wales got their UEFA Nations League campaign off to a good start after a late 1-0 victory over Finland at Helsingin Olympiastadion.

Despite barley featuring for Real Madrid since restart, Gareth Bale was handed a start by Wales manager Ryan Giggs

The Dragons had a bright start and should have been ahead in the fourth minute after Kieffer Moore powered home a header from Daniel James's cross but the goal was disallowed for a foul by Moore in the build-up.

Leo Vaisanen had a glorious chance to break the deadlock for the hosts six minutes inside the second stanza but hit the post but Finland were punished in the last ten minutes as Moore eventually found the net with the winner for Wales after a cross from James.

Giggs' troops topped League B Group 4 with three points after Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria played to a 1-1 draw.

Ukraine began the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Switzerland at Arena L'viv in Group 1 in League A.

Ukraine had a bright start after Andriy Yarmolenko got the opener in the 14th minute with a strike from close range after he was teed up by Oleksandr Tymchyk.

The Swiss got back into the game just before the half-time break courtesy of the equaliser from Haris Seferovic with a strike from outside the box after he was setup by Granit Xhaka.

Oleksandr Zinchenko restored the lead for the hosts 22 minutes before time and that proved to be the winner, as Ukraine grabbed top spot in League A Group 4 with three points after Germany and Spain shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Latvia 0-0 Andorra
Bulgaria 1-1 Republic of Ireland
Faroe Islands 3-2 Malta
Moldova 1-1 Kosovo
Russia 3-1 Serbia
Slovenia 0-0 Greece
Turkey 0-1 Hungary
