Everton v Tottenham Hotspur

English Premier League

Result: Everton 2-6 Tottenham Hotspur

Date: 23 December 2018

Venue: Goodison Park

Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane got two goals each as Tottenham Hotspur hammered Everton 6-2 in a Premier League match on Sunday evening at Goodison Park.   The Toffees came into the match on a four-game winlss run in the league while Spurs were unbeaten in their last five league matches.   Mauricio Pochettino made three changes to the side that beat Arsenal in the EFL Cup in midweek with Hugo Lloris back in goal while Harry Kane and Davinson Sanchez were back in starting line-up.   Richarlison almost opened the scoring for Marco Silva's charges in the tenth minute after he was picked out free inside the box by Theo Walcott with a brilliant cross from the right wing but the Brazilian guided his effort wide.   Walcott grabbed the lead for the hosts in the 21st minute with a low strike from the centre of the box following a through ball by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.   Son Heung-Min soon equalised for Tottenham in the 27th minute, capitalising on a mix up at the back before guiding his shot into the far corner, 1-1.   Dele Alli gave Spurs the lead ten minutes before time with a simple finish at close range from a rebound after shot-stopper Jordan Pickford spilled Son's initial strike into the English forward's path, 1-2.   Harry Kane made it 3-1 for the visitors three minutes before the break as again a Spurs player reacted the quickest after Kieran Trippier's free-kick hit the post,.   Silva's men went into the break trailing by two goals and needed to improve their concentration in the second stanza to stand any chances of getting something out of the game.   Christian Eriksen got the fourth goal for Pochettino's troops three minutes after the break with a strike from the centre of the box as Everton were caught ball watching again, 1-4.   Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled a goal back for the hosts six minutes into the second stanza, after making space inside the box before firing a low shot past Lloris, 2-4.   Son made it 5-2 for Tottenham just after the hour-mark after getting around the Toffees defence and going one-on-one with Pickford.   Kane then got his second goal of the game for Spurs and made it 6-2 in the last quarter of an hour with a good finish inside the box after the hosts were caught high up the pitch.   Everton were having a good attacking spell five minutes before time despite being already out of the contest but their final delivery summed up their evening and there was nothing more they could do in the end as they crashed to defeat.
