Ernst Middendorp has explained why goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma was selected in goal for Kaizer Chiefs against Maritzburg United on Saturday in their narrow 1-0 victory at FNB Stadium – ahead of the first choice Daniel Akpeyi.
The coach said that with the Nigerian, who arrived at Naturena from Chippa United on transfer deadline day in January, being unavailable for the Nedbank Cup quarter-final fixture against Cape Town City on March 31 the young Bvuma had to get a few games under his belt.

It suggests that the 23-year-old could also be in goal for Amakhosi when they face SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership clash on Friday.
"We have a very important game at the end of the month and I have travelled to watch Cape Town City play – we have to be well prepared to win this game. Daniel can't play, he is cup-tied. And Bruce is another one of our goalkeepers (and has been playing in all the Nedbank Cup matches)," Middendorp told reporters.

"Of course now this means we have to manage it. We can't now let him (Bruce) sit without any game-time and only training sessions. That's not how it works in football. I am very happy with Daniel, a national team goalkeeper who will be at the Afcon. It's not right to call it a crisis. But I am happy for Bruce also because we have seen what he can provide. He is definitely a player who can be the future No.1 inside the next two or three years."
