Egypt's Assistant Coach Diaa El-Sayed Urges CAF To Rethink Date Of AFCON Final

Egypt's Assistant Coach Diaa El-Sayed Urges CAF To Rethink Date Of AFCON Final

Following Egypt's semi-final victory over Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations, their assistant coach has urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to reconsider when the final of the tournament will be played.

Queiroz Urges CAF To Take Action Against Eto'o

As a result of a goalless 120 minutes of football, the winner of the match was decided by a penalty shootout, which the Pharaohs won 3-1 thanks to some vital saves by goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal.

The game was not without controversy, though, as Egypt national team coach Carlos Queiroz was sent off for questioning the referee's decisions in the second half.

His assistant coach Diaa El-Sayed has since stated that, considering that the record AFCON winners have played three consecutive games that have gone to extra-time, he hopes CAF will move the final to Monday for the sake of fairness in the competition.

Here is how Mohamed Salah and his teammates celebrated winning their semi-final clash against Cameroon:

"We are the only team that played 120 minutes in three consecutive games," he said in a post-match press conference, according to KingFut.

"The players are fully focused, they have a good base to build on, and we thank their clubs for that.

"We'll celebrate tonight, but after all, we haven't won anything yet.

"I hope CAF would move the final from Sunday to Monday for the sake of fair play, they have done that with the third-place decider."

El-Sayed also mentioned how he thought Queiroz's dismissal was unwarranted, and dedicated their semi-final victory to both him and assistant Rodger De Sa.

The Pharaohs will face Senegal in the final without either Queiroz or his assistant De Sa, who was likewise dismissed during their quarter-final against Morocco, on the sidelines.

"We also have a great head coach that has a lot of experience dealing with players," El-Sayed added.

"I believe Queiroz's send-off was undeserved. I'd like to dedicate the win to both him and his assistant Roger de Sa."
