Arrows Rescue A Point With Late Show Against Stellies

Arrows Rescue A Point With Late Show Against Stellies

Golden Arrows struck in the dying stages of the second half to snatch a point against Stellenbosch FC in DStv Premiership action on Friday night.

DStv Premiership

Result: Golden Arrows 1-1 Stellenbosch FC

Date: 14 October 2022

Venue: Princes Magogo Stadium

Arrows had only one change from their draw with Cape Town City, as Themba Mantshiyane was brought in. Stellies meanwhile, had five changes from their defeat against Kaizer Chiefs, as Olwethu Makhanya got his first start alongside the return of Sihle Nduli, Jayden Adams, Devon Titus and William Likuta.

The game was flowing from end to end in the early stages but neither side could get a clear opening in front of goal.

Stellenbosch were clinical from a set-piece on 23 minutes after Adams broke the deadlock with a header in the box from a corner by Fawaaz Basadien.

Steve Barker's charges gained momentum after that but Arrows held their own defensively and had a good attacking spell towards the end of the first stanza but they were unable to have any shot on target.

Abafana Bes'thende were on the front foot early in the second stanza but they were unable to find a way through the Stellies defence.

As a result, the hosts made a double change towards the hour-mark as Saziso Magawana and Siyabonga Khumalo both replaced Ryan Moon and Mthokozisi Dube.

As Arrows gained momentum, Stellies were were also dangerous on counter-attacks as they came close to doubling their lead in the last ten minutes but were denied by goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede.

Abafana Bes'thende's persistence finally paid off in stoppage time after Thabani Zuke found the equaliser with a strike in the box, as Arrows salvaged a share of the spoils.
