What The PSL's Rule Change On Foreign Players Means

What The PSL's Rule Change On Foreign Players Means
Clubs in South Africa will no longer be allowed to sign as many foreigners as they like, and will be restricted to five contracted foreign players at any one time.   Read: Amakhosi Wait On Aalborg For Gordinho   The old PSL rules stated that clubs were only allowed to register five players over the course of the season, however, were technically allowed to have more than that on their books.   Also, in another change, PSL clubs don't have to just register five foreign players all season like before, and can now register and unregister non-South African during the January transfer window if a player leaves.   With the revised rules, PSL clubs can now have five foreign players contracted 'at any point in time', meaning that spots will open up if players leave. Cape Town City recently released Renars Rode and Matt Sim, and now have two extra foreign places in their team because of the change in rules.   The revised wording clearly states: "a Member Club may not have more than five (5) foreign Players contracted with it at any point in time."   This means that clubs now have a bit more freedom when it comes to signing foreigner players, knowing that they aren't stuck with them for he season if things don't work out.
