Bidvest Wits had an impressive run of form last season, giving eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns a run for their money in the race for the title. There seems to be no slowing down from last season's campaign. The Clever Boys have had two games, against two Soweto giants, scored four goals and conceded two in total… Is this is a sign of things to come?
So far, so good for Gavin Hunt's charges after a 2-1 victory over both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in their opening games of the season. Supporters Club caught up with university student and Wits fan Reyaad Khan, who, before Saturday's game, predicted the result correctly.
"Yes, Nik! What did I tell you? I told you if we could beat Kaizer Chiefs, we can beat Orlando Pirates, and that's exactly what we did," he said.
"I think the Clever Boys will break a lot of hearts this upcoming season, particularly Sundowns – we have a score to settle with them.
"People criticise Wits for playing ugly football, they call it 'helicopter football' or something like that, but I hardly care, we will get all the points with ugly football. It's fine.
"The point is this: no one ever pays attention to Wits but we have Malajila, we have Rodgers, we have Hlatshwayo, and we have Josephs… so we are pretty unstoppable."
Can Wits outmuscle even the toughest teams this season?
