It seems as if a Hollywood thriller is playing out in the Cape of Good Hope. Mpumalanga Black Aces was recently bought by former Ajax Cape Town CEO John Comitis and subsequently relocated the club to Cape Town. It was announced that the new team would be called Cape Town City, and that they will share a stadium – Cape Town Stadium – with Ajax… Is there a rivalry brewing in the air?
It seems many supporters think that a clash between the two clubs is inevitable, especially considering they share a home ground and an ex-CEO.
"There are a lot of scores to settle between (the) Ajax owners and the Comitis family, Cape Town City is the vehicle to achieve the end means. Watch this space... I expect fireworks when the two Cape Town sides meet. Power struggle, war, the last man standing game." – Setlaboswana
"I can't wait for (the) CT Derby, considering how Comitis left Ajax." – 215043894
"Using a common stadium is not an issue, they will arrange their fixtures in such a way that their matches don't clash, that is not a problem. The problem is that one club's support base is bound to be compromised sooner or later. And this can have far-reaching consequences to the other club." – Setlaboswana
Do you think this will be a fierce rivalry? Do you think many Ajax fans will cross over to Cape Town City?
