Will Nurkovic be Amakhosi’s New ‘Starring’?

Following their enthralling opening day win against Highlands Park on Sunday, one Kaizer Chiefs fans have lauded the performance of the club’s new striker.

It was an end-to-end match that saw a sold-out Makhulong Stadium on the edge of their seats as Amakhosi and The Lions of the North battled it out.

The last time any Chiefs striker reached double figures in a season with their goal tally, was when Bernard Parker scored 10 goals in the 2013/14 season. Goals have proven hard to come by for the 33-year-old, although he remains an integral part of the Amakhosi attack.

Columbian hitman Leonardo Castro was lethal in Mamelodi Sundowns colours and formed part of the deadly CBD trident. Castro was signed to solve Chiefs’ goal scoring problems but has largely misfired and has only managed to score on seven occasions in his 30 appearances last season.

In his full Amakhosi debut, Serbian striker, Samir Nurkovic proved he might just be the lethal injection the Amakhosi attack needed.

He was key in winning aerial battles against a towering Bevan Fransman. He also played a key role in Chiefs’ first goal. It was his initial pass that picked out Lazarous Kambole, who rolled it into Frosler to set up Baccus, who delivered a peach of a pass to Manyama.

He was also a key part in the 28-year-old securing his brace. Following a long ball into the box, Nurkovic headed it on a plate for the former Cape Town City man to slot home.

Although he did cramp in the latter stages of the match, fans were very pleased by what they saw from the 27-year-old.

Fans have given their assessment of Nurkovic’s contribution.

Check it out.

“Shapa Khosi, Shapaaa! Thembisa and naysayers are quiet. This Nurković boy is a marvel to watch, Kambole and Baccus are still adapting, urgent improvement is required. Zuma, Manyama are showing hunger, Tower is back and will improve as the time goes. Coach, you've confused ODG with your selection, keep them guessing Ernst. The spies were sitting on the stands wasted their time, next match hit them with another strategy”

“Samir "the White Horse"Nurkovic, i see lot of goals this season, he is not selfish.”

Chiefs will be in action on Saturday when they take on Black Leopards at the Moses Mabhida stadium.

Do you thank you think Nurkovic could be the solution to Chiefs’ scoring woes this season?
