Bafana Bafana are gearing up for their AFCON qualifier encounter against Nigeria later this week, and new head coach Stuart Baxter has announced his permanent captain. Bidvest Wits' Thulani Hlatshwayo has been honoured with the national team's armband.
The supporters have reacted to the news of the defender's new duties, and most are delighted for "Tyson" and are happy to see the 27-year-old take over the armband from Kaizer Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune.
"I honestly thought Khune would get the armband but congrats to Tyson." – musah005
"Good for the nation as a whole to see Hlatshwayo wearing the honourable armband." – LeCowHloHlo vs mix vongani
"Now Bafana will start winning things!" – khawuta
"Wherever Khune is sitting, he is crying. He wanted that band very much." – roger-fetumba
"Good choice, Sir Baxter, well done and congratulations to Tyson for the appointment." – mbixane
"I must give a round of applause to the Englishman, he just chose the right man with great behaviour and great leadership on and off the pitch. Hlatshwayo is a Lekgwathi type of player, cool, disciplined and hard at work. He always gives his all whenever given a chance, with a good eye for goals when the chips are down. Well done Baxter, take us to the promised land Tyson, in you I believe." – Zax5-Bucs
"Good, I am sick of this Instagram Khune who thinks he is the greatest thing to ever happen to SA football. Now that this armband is really eluding him for good, maybe he is going to concentrate more on his performance on the field, we don't need a drama queen captain in our national team." – @McCoora
