Conceding three goals is never considered a success. Polokwane City found themselves on the end of a Sundowns drubbing at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Wednesday night. Furthermore, sitting in 13th spot on the log, they find themselves flirting with relegation. What went wrong? According to one of our supporters, they should take a leaf out of Pirates' book.
Soccer Laduma website user Shepard Sithole is of the opinion that Polokwane's issues are a result of management decisions and coaching choices.
"Polokwane City don't play the brand of football they used to after Kosta Papic downed his tools," he said.
"The assistant coach took over and was doing really well."
Papic vacated his post in October, after which assistant coach Nkueni Mayala took over. Since then, Julio Leal has been appointed to save the day.
"The assistant coach was doing exceptionally well as a caretaker coach. Look what happened at Pirates, Roger De Sa downed his tools." Following this Vladimir Vermezovic took over and after a poor run Eric Tinkler was promoted to head coach. "And he's still the head coach," Sithole added.
"I don't even understand what kind of football the new coach is trying to play.
"My point is: why hire a new coach if the caretaker is doing well?”
Should a team aim for consistency and stick with an assistant who already knows the players, or should they go for something completely new? What does this say to the assistant coach?
