I have always been asked why I studied journalism. "There's not enough money in that field," people said. Well, my love for soccer combined with my writing skills led me to wanting to be a soccer journalist. So you can imagine the excitement and gratitude when I was welcomed at Soccer Laduma as I walked in there for the first time as an intern.
I grew up in Soweto and every derby is a festival, so I was always surrounded by a football-loving community. It was the battle of the Bucs supporters versus the Amakhosi faithful in my street, and we all knew who supported Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs, and the victors of that day had bragging rights.
I should add how disappointing it is to see the Soweto teams struggling or not see them live up to their potential. Not to mention the relegation of one of the oldest Soweto teams, Moroka Swallows, in the 2014/15 season.
I am excited to see what this opportunity at Soccer Laduma lays for me in the future, and I am ready to contribute to the football nation.
