Exciting times await the South African soccer supporter. The season is now in full swing and there are still a number of teams who are yet to taste league action. Highlands Park is one of those teams. Much has been said about a club that is truly well-supported, and its vibrant support base has high expectations for the new campaign.
Supporters Club caught up with the Lions of the Norths No. 1 supporter, Nandos, to find out how the club's fans feel ahead of their season opener against fellow newly promoted NFD side Baroka FC.
Beaver Nazo: Hey Nandos, how are you doing, boet?
Nandos: Hey Beaver, I'm all good, buti wami.
BN: Tell me, what does it mean to the people of Tembisa to have a team of their own?
Nandos: The people of Tembisa are very happy; this team was in Witbank, it was Mr Sinki Mnisi who brought the team here. It is good because it opened job opportunities as well, there are security guards and the guys who maintain the pitch. We walk to our home games, we don't have to pay for transport.
BN: What do you expect from the team this season?
Nandos: We want the team to be in the top five, it's only next season that we will expect silverware. But we want to be as far from the relegation zone as we possibly can. Or gun for first or second place so that we can compete in Africa.
BN: What are your thoughts on your coach, Allan Freese?
Nandos: We trust him a whole lot, he understands what is expected of him.
BN: Do you think you have any chance of getting silverware this season?
Nandos: We will be competing in both the Nedbank and Telkom Cups, and our coach has PSL experience, so, yes, there is a possibility. We also have seasoned campaigners in Mashumba, Mbesuma and others.
BN: Any message for the people of Tembisa and the team?
Nandos: I urge everyone in Tembisa to support this team, let us all fight this battle against established PSL giants.
BN: Nandos, thanks for chatting to us man, and best of luck for the season.
Nandos: Thank you Beaver, anytime, my man.
Do you think Highlands Park have what it takes to surprise the league this season?
