A supporter has made a brilliant comment on how the dynamics in local football have changed. Gone are the days of one or two dominant teams; there are some emerging heavyweights out there.
"There has been a power shift in the past few years in local football," Soccer Laduma website reader Setlaboswana said.
"Downs came and forced their way to share the platform with the Big Boys, SuperSport Utd showed over the years that they master this trade (fellow football followers are quick to forget that Pitso graduated from this institution).
"On the other hand, you have Wits and Platinum Stars, who have the capacity and competency to turn the tables at any given time.
"Yeah, with these changes, the old days are over. Only clubs who invest heavily in human resources (quality players) will reign supreme in this league."
It seems everything goes in cycles. At one point, there were teams such as Manning Rangers, Santos, AmaZulu, Highlands Park and Moroka Swallows that ruled local football, and they are a shadow of their former selves now days.
Which clubs do you think are the emerging superpowers in the local game?
