South Africa is in shock. Not shock from surprise but rather that things are repeating themselves. Usually, when a new season begins, we welcome two new teams to the PSL. This season, we have four new clubs to welcome: Baroka FC, Highlands Park, Cape Town City, and the new and improved Moroka Swallows.
The supporters smell something immoral when it comes to the selling and buying of clubs, and the reason is simple: every time a club gets bought, renamed and relocated, it leaves a pile of broken supporter hearts in its wake, and in their eyes, it's just not fair.
One of our supporters, Nelinha1, has suggested that when it comes to comparing the sale of Aces and Free State Stars, the sale of Aces did less damage.
"The sale of Aces was much better compared to that of Free State Stars," the supporter said. "John bought the entire team, even though there was a name change, unlike Swallows, which just bought a status of another team after failing to fight its battles to be back in the Absa Premiership. They just bought their way into the top flight of SA football."
This supporter is both right and wrong. Wrong because both teams bought their way into the top flight, but the point the supporter is making is that Cape Town City are yet to prove themselves and could end up being successful; however, Swallows tried to prove themselves, were relegated twice two seasons, and then bought their way back into the top flight...
