Over the years, season after season, we've seen the team owned and coached by Jomo Sono move between the National First Division and Premier Soccer League frequently. Now, the question that lingers on is: Jomo may be too good for the NFD, but can he handle the pressures that the PSL brings?
It is a difficult one to answer. Maybe there should be a special league for the club... just kidding! Cosmos is a great team led by a man who has a good insight and experience in the world of football. He is, after all, the "Black Prince" of South African soccer.
Whenever the team is in the PSL, other clubs find it rather difficult to snatch a win against them. Cosmos can be very defensive-minded, and have, over the years, caused many upsets, including the big three, namely Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
There seem to be other areas that cause a leak in this ship as they continuously seem to be fighting relegation, though, and this could be down to the attack – Jomo needs to invest in a well-experienced strike force.
Ezenkosi are probably one of the more feared teams in the country, and that is certainly evident in the NFD. They obviously have some tough times down at the bottom but they always try to give their fans something to celebrate.
However, there seems to have been a change at the club in the latter stages of this season. Throughout the 2015/16 campaign, the team was rock-bottom, flirting with 15th spot from time to time. Now, though, Cosmos sit in 14th position, four points ahead of the two sides at the bottom of the log. There seems to be a new-found spirit at the club, and this could be the turnaround Jomo and his boys need.
Do you think Cosmos can survive relegation? Also, should Jomo continue to coach his own team, or search for the services of another coach?
