As the hype begins ahead of the Soweto Derby this coming weekend, it creates an opportunity for us to witness the new recruits and to see our beloved favourites take to the field in this auspicious occasion. One player rumoured to be making his return is Buccaneers skipper Oupa Manyisa, who has been missing from action for a while.
"Ace", as the Orlando Pirates midfielder is affectionately known, picked up an injury in September last year, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. It was evident that the midfield had a missing link without the maestro.
Have no fear, my dear Buccaneer faithful! The captain is back and ready to do what he knows best – help steer the ship smoothly over rough seas. With the new technical team at the helm, Manyisa would have to prove himself once again, but that should not be a difficult task for the 27-year-old as he has had a good run-in during the pre-season, and has shown notable progress.
With experience under his belt, he will be prepared to battle for a place in the midfield, which is what new head coach Muhsin Ertugral will be expecting as he builds his team ahead of the new season.
However, the question remains: Will coach Ertugral give the captain's armband to Ace, or will he look at other options?
Are you excited to see Manyisa return to the field? Also, do you think he should captain the team this season?
