It seems the prayers have been answered, the plans are beginning to kick into action and the talking suits are doing more than just talking. The announcement was made yesterday that Kaizer Chiefs will be ridding themselves of 20 surplus players. The supporters are elated; this is a victory for the people of the Khosi Nation.
For months, Amakhosi supporters have been stating that their primary concern, before signing players, is getting rid of those who are no longer good enough for the team. Many bemoaned the fact that Bobby Motaung appeared to be reluctant to let go of players or sign quality. However, he has now taken the first step towards giving the supporters what they want.
"This is the best news after a horrific season." – Junior25
"I'm not sad to see the back of Gould, he must change careers and try his luck at boxing." – Pres4life
So it seems action is being taken, which is great news for the Khosi Nation. It shows that management is aware of the barren season and are making efforts to rectify the situation. However, some questions still loom… There are still some players the supporters would like to see go (Bernard Parker seems to be heading this list, based on sentiment), and many are still waiting to see who the signings are before they celebrate.
"Chiefs mean business next season. Let's hope they will buy quality players this time, but they only left two people by mistake – Parker and Komphela. They must also go, and then I'll celebrate and drink champagne on that day." – Neymar Jnr
"At last, Bobby finally listened. #Thanks Bobby. #We are in this mess because of you… Take us out." – Xphutocopy
What do you think of the players who got released? Are Chiefs moving in the right direction?
