Last week, Supporters Club caught up with Stanton "Stiga" Fredericks for an interview, and it stirred up some strong emotions from those who used to watch him play. One supporter thinks he was as good as it got for Chiefs.
Many of our supporters used the opportunity to compliment Stiga on the services he provided for Bafana Bafana and Amakhosi.
In terms of Bafana Bafana, most supporters remembered his performance against England most fondly:
"I remember this guy playing for Bafana Bafana against England. In that game, boy, you were magical. Remember you were called to replace the injured Sibusiso Zuma." – Bezana
In terms of his days at Kaizer Chiefs, many supporters hailed the combination he enjoyed with Jabu (Pule) Mahlangu, saying that it was an entertaining and productive brand of football. Some supporters have even said that that generation was the last one to play entertaining football in the gold and black.
"The last player to have deserved to wear that No. 10 jersey at Chiefs; the best wingers (Stiga and Jabu) Chiefs has ever had in the past 20 years. I remember even Arthur Zwane found it hard to make the starting XI under those two." – MGG06
"It ended there in your days, Stiga. Current football is boring. You were playing an entertaining football, guys." – mathadwazingane
Do you agree? Was that the most entertaining class of footballers? Was Stiga the last true No. 10 at Chiefs?
