Hearts stopped beating for a moment when pictures of Erick "Tower" Mathoho in a moon boot emerged after Amaglug-glug's exit from the Olympic Games this week. The news has everybody debating and sweating.
Since the SA U23 side's exit from the Games, the finger-pointing has not stopped, with many aiming at the Kaizer Chiefs duo of Itumeleng Khune and Mathoho, questioning the effectiveness of their inclusion in the squad.
"Why did Owen Da Gama pick him if he wasn't the best? Why did Mashamaite give him the Chiefs Player of the Season award? The Mathoho I am talking about scored seven goals last season, if he is not the best defender in the PSL please humiliate yourself and tell me who he is so that we can laugh!" – Nyononyoni
"Mathoho is the current best defender in South Africa... ask Neymar... and Khune is the best in Africa and the world... ask Neymar!" – Vonganithereturn
While the rest of South Africa have been debating their titles as the two most best overage players to take to the Games, the Khosi Nation bites its nails as it awaits the speedy recovery of one of its star players.
"Tower, speedy recovery, you played well in Brazil. Hard luck, boi." – sihlempho
"This is the chance for Xulu, Cardoso and Nguzane to be there while Mathoho is not around. Mphahlele will be in the first XI, so maybe they can try take Gordinho out, but it won't be easy." – MSHABA18
What does Mathoho's injury mean for Chiefs' season if it turns out to be a long-term setback? Did Khune and Tower live up to their expected roles in the Olympics?
