The coaches merry-go-round seems to be hitting the PSL shores again. former Ajax Cape Town coach Roger De Sa was the latest casualty after vacating his position as head coach of the Urban Warriors. Before that, Allan Freese and Denis Lavagne were relieved of their duties at Highlands Park and Free State Stars respectively.
This has made football lovers take a swipe at their respective teams, some even blaming fellow supporters for not being patient enough with their team's mentors. This has led to many people believing that coaching in the PSL is very demanding and a "no guarantees" job.
When one takes a closer look at the coaches' movements in the PSL over the past four seasons, you'll find that only two coaches who have been there, survived the chop, Gavin Hunt and Pitso Mosimane – although if it wasn't for Mr Motsepe's trust in him, Pitso would've lost his job a long time ago, like after he had to be rescued by police at the Masterpieces Moripe Stadium with a number of Sundowns fans calling for his head. Other than these two gentlemen, though, the rest were on their bikes to different destinations.
This has been going on for too long now. It is a difficult thing to suggest that anything be done about it because the details between a coach and his employers is confidential information and it is between the two parties. Therefore all we can do is wait and see who gets the chop next and sympathise with them, and ask ourselves the famous question: "Who is next?"... That’s the sad reality of it, unfortunately!
